"Would not work upon arrival." 2009-05-07
By N. Dickson
This unit seems like a good deal but after following all the manual's instructions and even calling the retailer for advice, it would not stay powered up on a fully charged battery, the AC charger, nor the car's DC connection.

Also, moving between various portions of the menu took WAY too long.

To move from one part of the menu, the manual instructs one to use a pencil, totally impractical while driving and not required for other GPS units.

(We have a Garmin Nuvi 670 and two other Garmins for our boat and have not had these experiences.)

 "Great Idea pathetic execution" 2008-12-09

Got this from another vendor for what I thought was a steal. Had it delivered and opened it up and charged it for 4 hours. Flipped the switch on the back, pressed the power button, set the date and time and location. Mounted it on the bracket (flimsy) and typed in an address. The voice that came out of the speaker sounded like the cheapest walkie talkie voice I've ever heard. It seemed to find the signal quickly and gave me good directions and named the streets as I drove. Pressed the power off button and went inside the store. Came back out, pressed the power button and the screen came back up frozen. Turned it off and then back on and the same screen came up. Turned the on off switch on back, I guess this is a reset as the set up screen came back up, set the date, time etc all over again and plugged in another address. Tinny sounding voice told me where to go and got me there okay. Turned it off on arrival and upon turning it back on the screen was frozen again. Called the 800 support number and was on hold for 20 minutes before a foreign voice came on and offered me absolutely no help besides offering to send me a mailing label so I could pay to ship it back to them. I did find out I could bring it back to a local auto parts store for credit which I immediately did. On a side note, the menu is terrible on the screen, terribly hard to see, you cannot change the fonts. The box this one came in showed a $600 price on it, I paid just over 1/6 of that including shipping and based on what I saw I over paid. The bracket for the GPS is flimsy and not very changeable. The GPS gets mounted to the wireless camera receiver and then to the bracket. I never did get around to mountin the camera as the GPS itself was a POS. The web page for the GPS had an update flash but I could never tell if the one I received needed it or not and the lady on the support phone couldn't understand my question. I am seeing this model marked down all over the place. I suppose if you used an external speaker and got one that didn't freeze up it would be a great thing to have. I wanted it because I mounted a camper on my truck and can't see out the back window. Guess I'll mount a stand alone wireless camera and keep my old GPS.

I should of known it was too good to be true. This product, and the so-called help from the manufacturer is a joke. I can't get my money back for this sub-standard product, but I can sure write a review that will maybe save someone elses hard earned money. The back-up camera was the first thing that didn't work. Had a person that installs them for a living try to install it, and even HE couldn't get it to work! The company REFUSED to replace the camera! The GPS system itself, is completely outdated in regards to the maps. Fifty percent of the addresses that I try to enter will not work, no matter HOW they are entered. NO SUCH ADDRESS, is the usual response. And go on their website and look for the the map update it promises you will be available in the product brochures, good luck finding that! No updates, and NO reason why. Save your money, buy AMYTHING but products by NEXTAR. Never again!!!

"Not bad if you can find a bargin price" 2008-10-13
By Michael N. Placito (Rome, NY USA)
This is not a bad unit, on par with my Verizon Navigator that I had on my phone but without the $10 service charge and air time that I had to pay Verizon. Don't fall for the back-up camera, it's only a gimmick especially if you live in the north where you get some chilly fall nights that mix with the heat of the day and causes condensation on the camera lens, or if your like me and wash the vehicle alot. The Condensation renders the camera completely useless. I'm going to try to dry it out with a hair dryer and see what happens. Also the antena causes some problems, once in awhile you get static, (picture noise) but that only happens very seldom since initial installation, it has pretty much corrected itself with more use, it could be a problem caused by the condensation. The installation was not a problem because it was done professionally and all the splices where soldered to insure good contact.

As the title says, if you can find it at a bargin price, it's a good deal but if you can find a better unit at the same price without the back-up camera and more features then I would go with that unit instead.
